Failure of the ais exam? Whatever your age and educational level, the ais exam shouldn't scare you. In fact, you shouldn't be afraid of any final exam, and especially the exam to become a sommelier. Because? Whether you started the sommelier course out of passion or with the desire to make it a profession, you are certainly a wine lover. And if you are a wine lover you really care about making the matter yours, so you shouldn't make any of the mistakes that are really a threat to you. become a sommelier. Every week I get emails from aspiring sommeliers who want ais exam course questions. It is one thing to share my experience or create a facsimile to frame what awaits you during the exam, it is another thing to think about studying on the AIS exam questions of the past years.
In the first place, the questions tend not to be repeated very frequently because the ais course program is very vast. Secondly, this study method is that of the bosses who care only about the title and little about becoming good in the discipline they are following. This not only happens at the sommelier course, but also at the university. And it is thanks to these mediocre students that the efforts of smart students are penalized. To me, who have always been a bit "nerd", they frankly give a lot of annoyance. Taking a sommelier course is an investment of time and money, so you should take it very seriously. But now we come to the 5 habits that are likely to make you have the rejection of the ais exam.
Failure of the ais exam / mistake 1: study on questions from past exams
As anticipated, the program of the AIS course is vast, so even if it can certainly happen to find repeated questions, they will probably be only a small part. Furthermore, if you enrolled in the AIS course because you love wine and would like to deepen this extraordinary world, why not study properly?
Certainly taking a look or practicing some tests can be absolutely useful, but more than anything else to understand the methods and timing. However studying on questions DOES NOT MEAN STUDY, I find it rather a clumsy and crude attempt to memorize. All this clashes with a choice made with love, don't you think?

Failure of the ais exam / error 2: re-reading the same chapter over and over again
Rereading AIS books to exasperation won't do you any good. And even less will you need to reread the same chapter ad nauseam. If you want to make the world of wine your own, just read once in silence and then read aloud only the key concepts.
Reading the same chapter endlessly may help you to memorize, but I am sure you will soon forget what is covered.
Diametrically opposite is the sniper technique, which takes its name from the sharpshooters and suggests not to create crutches in your brain so as not to make it sluggish. If rereading the same chapter over and over is only to bore your favorite neuron, thinking that you have only one chance to read that particular chapter keeps it active and alert. So give yourself one chance to read a chapter, read it silently carefully, and repeat the key concepts aloud.
Failure of the ais exam / error 1: not writing down the key concepts
Speaking of key concepts, there's no better way to pin them down than to highlight them in the book and write them down in your own words. To do this, I recommend that you buy a A5 notebook like this one from Legami, which I find really perfect because having the spiral it is very comfortable to write front and back, the pen does not penetrate and has a very handy pocket where I can put any mental maps or facsimiles of the tasting cards, point cards and food pairing graphics card. wine. I also use them at university and I can't do without them anymore, I have practically all kinds of them! Speaking of which, this for incurable travel lovers with the map it's my favorite, I just bought it for the Marketing exam for the wine and oenological sector that I give in November 😍😍😍!
When you have found the perfect notebook for you, write the key concepts in an orderly way and above all in your own words, without copying what you read in the book. Reworking key concepts and writing them down in a notebook is the best way to really study. Besides, A5 notebooks fit in any bag and purse and you can always take them with you to review… even if you wait for the tractor after you're stuck in the middle of a vineyard!
Failure of the ais exam / error 4: Do not develop the key concepts out loud independently
At this point you have read the key concepts aloud, you have reworked them in a notebook ... you are ready to develop them aloud and make them truly yours. Let's be clear, you don't have to repeat by heart what you read in the book: this is the best way to forget everything and get the infamous AIS exam failure. You really have to rework what you read in your own words and you can keep the notebook underneath with the key concepts. In fact, at this stage you have to do some further reworking work that makes you really understand what you are studying and when you understand something you hardly forget it!
Failure of the ais exam / error 5: do not make wine tasting cards and food wine pairing cards
Put it away: the AIS cards you have to do to exasperation. Especially the food wine pairing graphics card it is far from trivial, therefore practicing every day making the table of a food, even a biscuit or a sandwich, is essential. In the end, it takes no more than 10 minutes to make one, and since you eat at least 3 times a day, you have no excuse not to get into this healthy habit. At the exam you will be asked to draw the polygon of the wine food pairing graphics card and to create the wine tasting card with all the entries by heart. So practice with every wine you drink!

Don't expect just a summary of the ais books: rather a centered insight into everything you need to pass the exam and make a great impression. Drunk the wolf 🍀 and let me know how it went, also in a comment under this article!
PS If the failure of the AIS exam has already knocked on your door, do not inflict punishments such as drinking brick wine for a month in a row. Working out failures in the right way is what distinguishes a loser from a winner in life. Let's start with a key concept: no one is perfect and infallible.
If an exam or event doesn't go as it should, take your time first: even the biggest obstacle seems less insurmountable after a glass of red wine and a good sleep. Do not blame yourself that it is useless, rather try to understand which phase of your study process was not effective. Try to process this little failure constructively to learn something new first of all by yourself: the only truly irremediable thing in life is an incurable disease, everything else is just a matter of perseverance. ☀️
