Divine Venus and the five oenological forms of beauty"was the title of an afternoon in which the art treasures on display at Palazzo Te dialogued with the best samples of the Veronelli Guide 2022. Andrea Alpi, Andrea Bonini, Gigi Brozzoni, Marco Magnoli and Alessandra Piubello conducted this preview tasting, immediately after visiting the exhibition "Divine Venus. Harmonies on Earth"(which can be admired until 12 December 2021) in the company of Stefano Baia Curionia well of culture that I would have listened to for hours. As cover photo I chose the awarding of my oenological myth: Luigi Moio. I'm going to do my best to study and improve and become even a tenth as good as him... because he really is immense. And luckily Luigi Veronelli advised him to open his own winery: to be able to taste a wine like his Grande Cuvée is a privilege and paints a perfect picture of Luigi Moio's mastery and talent.

Veronelli Guide 2022: Trento DOC Extra Brut Giulio Ferrari Riserva del Fondatore 2010

Intense and brilliant straw yellow. The glass unfortunately makes it impossible for me to assess the perlage by sight. The nose is intense and elegant, complex, with buttery, nutty, citrus notes and a camphor finish. In the mouth it has a very crisp bubble that perhaps denotes a disgorgement too recent to enhance it as it deserves. Great freshness and nice length. In two or three years it will be spectacular.

Veronelli Guide 2022: Irpinia DOC white Grande Cuvée Luigi Moio 2018

An exciting wine. Intense, bright straw yellow, consistent. The nose is crazy, intense and broad with notes of hydrocarbon, cedar grass, salt, white pepper, candied citron, raw butter and Mediterranean scrub. In the mouth it is very elegant, balanced, savoury, very fresh, soft, perfect. Long, citrusy finish. I would be curious to hear its evolution in the bottle in about ten years' time.

Veronelli Guide 2022: Salento IGP Negroamaro Girofle Rosé 2020

Intense onion skin pink with copper highlights, consistent. The nose is very delicate, elegant and fine.  Spicy notes of pink pepper, seichuan pepper, white chocolate, rose, strawberry yoghurt, bitter orange, saltiness. In the mouth it is very consistent, voluptuous, enveloping, very fresh, balanced and quite long for a young rosé.

Guida Oro Veronelli 2022: Barolo DOCG Bussia Riserva Granbussia 2012, Poderi Aldo Coterno

Deep ruby red and barely transparent. The nose is delicate, elegant and precise with floral notes of rose, smoky, black pepper, cigar, freshly ground coffee, fresh blackberry. In the mouth, it is soft, fresh, structured, elegant, with well-present but amalgamated tannins.  Very long, spicy finish. I would like to taste it again in at least ten years... I am sure it will become a spectacle!

Veronelli Gold Guide 2022: Costa Toscana Petit Manseng Passito 2018

Old golden yellow, brilliant and fairly consistent. The nose has notes of ripe banana, dried plum, resin, fig, marron glace, papaya. In the mouth it is consistent, structured, very balanced, dense and voluptuous. Even better in the mouth, the sugar is mainly felt as softness. Very long.

As a great lover of art and architecture, I found this event to be pure perfection: I couldn't say what makes me happier than admiring such beauty first and tasting such oenological masterpieces afterwards.

Cheers 🍷
