I recently went to the presentation of the Viniplus 2022 Guide by Ais Lombardia, wine guide now in its 16th edition. This year Viniplus will also be sustainable as it is not printed and can only be consulted via the dedicated web app. Although I am the first to love print and publish a book dedicated to aspiring sommeliers exclusively in print, I am convinced that for all guides, wines, foods, hotels, travel, a smartphone app is much more sensible. This not only for the environment, which still remains a central theme today, or for the painstakingly sustainable printing costs if you want to work correctly, but above all to meet the needs of users. If a book is "forever" a guide instead has a seasonality and a duration. Furthermore, the smartphone is now an extension of our hands, why bring an extra book? Not only that: let's say we are out and about and we have the opportunity to visit a winery, do you want to add the convenience of having a guide accessible from your phone? Brava then Ais Lombardia, which also publishes the regional magazine on FSC paper®

The Viniplus 2022 guide by Ais Lombardia can be consulted for free from this link and this makes it a great promotional tool for Lombard wines, too often overshadowed by those of more noble regions. The commercial operation of the Franciacorta Consortium, capable with marketing initiatives of the highest level to demonstrate that Lombardy exists and shines in the firmament of quality wine.

In this article you will find photos of some Franciacortas that I tasted in the time slot reserved for the press during thepresentation event at The Westin Palace Hotel, in the Repubblica area of Milan. But Lombardy is much more than Franciacorta: there are famous denominations such asBeyond Pavese, very small denominations such as Moscato di Scanzo, “unknown” denominations such as Capriano del Colle and “heroic” denominations such as the Valtellina. I limited myself to mainly tasting the Franciacortas because having only one hour due to staggered entrances I had to make choices ... and being a veteran of a wonderful Press Tour in Oltrepò Pavese at Tenuta Mazzolino and tasting Lands of Pinot Noir I decided to change the area!

Sebastiano Baldinu, editor of the Viniplus 2022 Guide, in his speech complimented the participation of the Lombard companies, thanks to which the guide is truly a faithful tool capable of drawing a rather faithful portrait of the Lombard wine situation. "The number of Rose Golds of this edition, as many as 100, testifies to an increasingly important attention on the part of companies not only to general quality, but also to the link with the territory to which they belong, which is also protected and defended from an environmental point of view. ".

The attribution of the Rosa Comuna d'Oro, in addition to taking into account the organoleptic characteristics of the wines, rewards the production consistency of each company, especially if oriented towards the enhancement of the grape variety, the type of wine and the specific production area.

“Green Roses report wines containing substantially low quantities of sulfur dioxide. The established limit is 75 mg / l of total SO2. It represents an indication for the consumer and must not be confused or superimposed on the concept of "organic wine".

By the way, you've already read my article dedicated to sulfur dioxide?

“A major and in-depth edition is the one that AIS Lombardia is happy to present this year, first of all to all its almost 6000 members and to the Lombard manufacturing world. comments Hosam Eldin Abou Eleyoun, president of AIS Lombardia. “The number of excellences has grown considerably, demonstrating the great work being carried out in all the Lombard provinces. More than 90% of the wine produced in our region is denominated and from year to year a widespread enhancement of all the wine districts that we are lucky enough to have in Lombardy emerges with force ”.

Hosam Eldin Abou Eleyoun - President of AIS Lombardia

Dear colleagues,

It gives immense satisfaction to have completed the works for the new edition of the Viniplus guide, available online for members, enthusiasts and professionals in the sector, once again this year. Despite the difficulties of the moment, our group of tasters managed to organize the tasting sessions in total safety. A meticulous work that involved many colleagues who carried out their task with passion, seriousness and commitment.

The result does not surprise us at all. On the contrary, it confirms the unstoppable growth of the quality of Lombard wine, thanks to the hard work of the producers, true custodians of tradition and wine culture, and increasingly attentive to the environment. Sustainability has become a philosophy of life and a stimulus to defend the environment around us. The last two years have marked all of us but the Lombard spirit and determination once again made the difference. Now full speed ahead, together, because it will not be enough to win the war against the virus. We have to go back to filling the premises, to be together and to toast with Lombard wines.

Raise your glasses and happy reading to all.

Attilio Fontana - President of the Lombardy Region

I am very pleased to introduce the Viniplus 2022 Guide, now a constant in promoting the excellence of the Lombard glass. Even more pleased to note that the historical moment has not prevented us from looking with confidence to the future and with the usual dedication to the present, strengthened by our precious wine heritage. […] AIS Lombardia confirms itself as a fundamental interlocutor in promoting the sector with territorial delegations capable of reaching the best sommeliers and companies with capillarity, for continuous training and in-depth studies. Highly functional aspects for the communication of glasses and territories.

Fabio Rolfi - Councilor for agriculture, food and green systems

Wine is the product that best represents a territory and can be the symbol of the economic recovery of various sectors, primarily agriculture, tourism and catering. Lombardy can boast a heritage of over 90 cultivated vines and a quality of wines increasingly known and appreciated in the world. The challenge for the future is to consolidate internal consumption and explore new markets by telling the externally the indissoluble link between wine and the territories of Lombardy, the increasingly sustainable production techniques and the agricultural work that is hidden behind a label. For this reason, the work of storytelling is fundamental and the Viniplus guide has for years been a fixed point for those who cultivate the passion of wine and for those who intend to get to know our region also through the excellences it can offer. In the first six months of 2021, the demand for Lombard wines abroad increased by 11,7%, a marked recovery compared to last year. Domestic purchases also showed growth which is destined to consolidate over the months and which is rewarding quality productions characterized by a strong link with the territory, of which Lombardy can boast one of the widest offers, not only on the Italian scene, but also internationally. Our regional territory boasts 90% of quality Denomination wines, thanks to 5 Docg, 21 Doc and 15 Igt. […] Doing research and promoting knowledge of our products is very important also in terms of tourism. The Lombardy Region concretely believes in the wine sector, with economic measures, communication and enhancement of the quality of the labels.

Lara Magoni - Councilor for tourism, territorial marketing and fashion

[…] After difficult months, with the health emergency caused by the pandemic, the relaunch of Lombardy also involves tourism and food and wine. Two added values that have always constituted an indissoluble combination: the possibility of appreciating territories and places thanks also to itineraries of taste represents a significant attractive factor, an enrichment of the spirit and soul. And the wine, in this virtuous path, is certainly the symbol of the restart because each glass contains a territory that corresponds to a world made of sacrifice and passion: operators, workers, professionals of a sector, the wine sector, the son of commitment, of study, application and scientific rigor. But above all, love for an intoxicating product. […] All of Lombardy talks about wine, it is told through the bubbles, the great whites, reds and rosés that are giving considerable satisfaction to producers and to the millions of customers who annually choose our labels. […] The winning factor of the wines of our realities? Surely the strong territorial connotation, a link with the roots that comes from the first grape, to reach the tables of consumers. A territorial connotation that once again unites tourism and food and wine tradition: the desire to tell Lombardy through the excellence of the places is an element of success. And hope for the future.

Luigi Bortolotti - Head of AIS Lombardia tasters

It is a great satisfaction to have successfully completed, once again this year, the tastings for our Viniplus 2022 Regional Guide, which also serve to draw up the section dedicated to Lombardy in the National Vitae Guide. I obviously have to thank all the tasters who made themselves available and participated in the various tasting commissions. A heartfelt thanks goes to all the sommeliers tasters involved in the organizational logistics necessary before, during and after the tasting phases.
Organizing the cataloging of the over 1000 wines to perfection is not easy and requires a precise, punctual and daily commitment for about a month. Even organizing, during the tasting phases, the succession and service of wines requires precision, constant attention and sure professionalism. It is necessary to control the temperatures, prepare the tasting batteries with all the bottles covered and signed, it is necessary that the single label is served only to the specific taster to whom it is assigned and without ever making mistakes. In addition to being tasted blindly, the same bottle is evaluated simultaneously by three different commissions which, during the tasting phase, must not and cannot communicate with each other, just as no commissioner can communicate with someone else on his own commission.
Once this is done there is then the phase of the equally demanding collection and cataloging of the scores, the reworking of the descriptions of each wine which is carried out on the basis of the notes of the various commissions, to conclude there is then the final check of all the data and of all descriptions to avoid oversights or errors. Viniplus 2022, AIS Lombardia: The tastings

How do you explain Luigi Bortolotti: "This year we used the new points card of the Italian Sommelier Association, which will be officially adopted during the courses of 2022: it has allowed us to enhance the wines even more by introducing more detailed and precise parameters".
