Autochthonous is born 2021 of Go Wine it's one of the events I've always liked best. There are many interesting gems and the preview for the press is always "tailored" for the taster, that is, I can take all my notes serenely. Unfortunately, the tasting in shifts did not allow me to taste everything therefore, since I normally give more and more space to bubbles, especially the classic method, for this 2021 edition in Milan I decided to prefer white wines. And I tasted them all, really all! I exceeded the maximum time allowed by a few minutes but I proudly succeeded! Not only that, I have compiled a real tasting ranking of the wines I liked the most. I ask you to read it with an emotional look because, being different wines from different regions and elaborated with different indigenous vines, I certainly cannot make comparisons. So consider it pure subjective pleasure of my palate!
# 1 Autochthonous is born 2021: “Ensemblao” 2017, La source
Tasting notes. It has a beautiful intense and brilliant golden yellow color. The nose is reminiscent of an Alsatian gewurztraminer and is simply crazy. It goes beautifully with oysters and blue cheeses.
Indigenous grape variety. Muscat, gewürztraminer e müller-thurgau meet to create a masterpiece. They are not really native vines of the Aosta Valley, but the white muscat and the müller-thurgau have been so deeply rooted in the region for a long time that they can now be defined almost indigenous.
# 2 Autochthonous is born 2021: “Misunderstood” 2020, Ca and Curen
Tasting notes. Pale and brilliant straw yellow. The nose has notes more of sauvignon than of muscat. It is enriched with canned peach, pear and white chocolate. In the mouth it is balanced, consistently fresh and rather savory.
Indigenous grape variety. The moscato is an aromatic white grape variety native to Piedmont.
NB On 23 January 2020 Autoctono is born I had chosen this wine among the 5 that I liked the most. Discover the other goodies HERE.
# 3 Autochthonous is born 2021: “Telos Bianco” 2019, Tenuta Sant'Antonio
Tasting notes. Straw yellow with golden reflections, bright and consistent. The nose is intense, very fragrant and very elegant. Notes of passion fruit, blood orange, white chocolate and Greek basil. In the mouth it is coherent, with a large acidic shoulder, flavor and a lot of structure. Long citrus finish.
Indigenous grape variety. The garganega is the native white grape variety of the provinces of Verona and Vicenza. A curiosity? DNA studies have shown that one of its clones is identical to Malvasia de Manresa, a practically extinct Spanish grape.
NB On May 31, 2019 I made a vertical of Telos spectacular, from the 2018 vintage to the 2012 vintage.
# 4 Autochthonous is born 2021: “White Giants” 2019, Contini
Tasting notes. Brilliant and consistent straw yellow. Crazy nose feels the barrel, but it is not intrusive. Intense nose with notes of white chocolate, banana, macadamia nuts, dill. In the mouth it is consistent, crunchy, fresh, warm and savory with a long finish of mascarpone mousse.
Indigenous grape variety. Vernaccia e Vermentino they unite in their native land: Sardinia.
# 5 Autochthonous is born 2021: “Ti Esti '” Fiano 2019, Domus Hortae
Tasting notes. Wonderful citrine nose with notes of candied pear, candied cedar, citronella essence, lavender, chamomile, black tea (a lot). In the mouth it is consistent with notes of lemon tea, very savory and very fresh. Long finish of unsweetened black tea.
Indigenous grape variety. The minute is an aromatic white grape variety native to Puglia that has always lived in the shadow of the much more famous Fiano di Avellino. In reality, they are two different grape varieties that have both been called for a long time fiano, in Valle d'Itria it was sometimes called fiano minutolo then from 2011 finally in the Agricultural Policy Register it makes its official appearance only with the name minute. The cultivation is currently under observation in Basilicata.
# 6 Autochthonous is born 2021: Grechetto 2019, Colle Ciocco
Tasting notes. Brilliant straw yellow with golden hues. The nose is delicious with citrus notes of cocoa with candied lemon and ginger, violet, red orange juice. In the mouth it is coherent and very balanced, particularly drinkable and with a long red orange finish.
Indigenous grape variety. The grechetto it is a vine widespread in Umbria and throughout the belt of Central Italy. It is also grown in Emilia where the Pignoletto DOCG is made, but I prefer its firm expressions.
# 7 Autochthonous is born 2021: “Vigne Alte” Lugana 2020, Zeni 1870
Tasting notes. Classic Lugana style. very fat, consistent, turbine nose with an apricot note. In the mouth it is fresh and very savory, very pleasant.
Indigenous grape variety. Trebbiano di Soave is also known as Trebbiano di Lugana, turbiana, white verdicchio.
# 8 Autochthonous is born 2021: “Torcoli” Vermentino 2019, Lombardi
Tasting notes. Brilliant and consistent straw yellow. The nose is mineral with particularly interesting notes of hydrocarbons. Notes of pear, honey, mon cheri, melted butter. In the mouth it is fresh, very savory, structured and warm. Long honeyed finish.
Indigenous grape variety. The Vermentino it is a very famous vine cultivated above all in Sardinia, Liguria, Tuscany and Piedmont (with the name Favorita), where it can be defined as autochthonous. To express himself at his best, he asks to be raised along the coast, even better if in altitude.
# 9 Autochthonous is born 2021: Pigato 2020, Claudio Vio
Tasting notes. Brilliant straw yellow, consistent. The nose is characteristic of the pigato, without smudging. Floral and buttery nose, with notes of honey, sugared almonds and jasmine. In the mouth it is consistent, fresh, very savory and long.
Indigenous grape variety. The pigato is a white grape variety of Greek origin that arrived in Liguria during the Middle Ages.
NB I had the pleasure of staying in the delightful farmhouse of the Vio family during a splendid evening of Stelle & Calici with chef Tommaso Arrigoni organized by Vite in Riviera. I'd love to go back! 😍
# 10 Autochthonous is born 2021: Friulian Historic Vineyard 2019, Giant
Tasting notes. Brilliant straw yellow, an excellent and particularly mineral Friulian. On the nose peach, pear, violet, apricot, black cherry fade into a salty finish. In the mouth it is very fresh and savory. Long almond finish. It goes well with shellfish and lake fish, better raw.
Indigenous grape variety. It was once called tocai, today it is simply called Friulian following a legal dispute with the famous Hungarian wine Tokaji produced with the furmint grape. Curiously then it seems that it is actually Italian Tocai, brought to Hungary as a marriage dowry by the Friulian noblewoman Aurora Formentini in 1632. So, if it is not clear, it seems that we can no longer call our vine and its wine produced Tocai because in assonance with the Hungarian Tokaji which would actually be produced with Italian tocai. Help 😅 This white grape variety is grown in Friuli-Venezia Giulia and Slovenia.
Bonus: Do you like Japanese? Try Sushi Kobbo in Milan!
How much I love sushi… and how much I love the ACE formula! However, finding quality sushi all can you eat is more difficult than finding a Sassicaia from 85 in the cellar. I have my point of reference in Milan that is Jin Sushi, but on Mondays it is closed and I found myself in disarray with an absurd munchies. So browsing through the various proposals I found Sushi Kobbo… And I must say that in the end I liked it at least as much as Jin Sushi. An incredible quality between typical and fusion in a well-kept environment and with very comfortable armchairs. Consider € 60 in 2 excluding wine to enjoy a load of delicious sushi and sashimi. I point out the uramaki with lobster, the nigiri with eel and all the sashimi. Can't wait to go back!
I really hope you will taste these wines ... my side I plan to visit some of these wineries as soon as possible because I am convinced that there is much more to taste!
Do you know any of these wineries? If so, scroll down the page and write it to me in a comment! 🤩
