Yesterday, at the Congress Hall of the Grinzane Cavour Castle near Alba, I received the special prize reserved for a book published in 2020 that has wine as its theme or that, in any case, pays special attention to wine, on the occasion of the XX edition of Bere il Territorio, the National Literary Competition promoted by Go Wine. For twenty years now, this literary competition has invited participants to tell about their relationship with wine through travel and its emotions and with my short novel "Leonardo's sparkling wine" I chose to travel through time - or into a parallel dimension - in the name of Leonardo da Vinci and the classic method sparkling wine. The “Drinking the territory” award ceremony is now a traditional appointment that represents one of the most significant cultural projects of Go Wine, made even more special this year as it is associated with the celebrations for the association's twentieth anniversary.
“Bere il Territorio” was born in 2001 to spread a positive concept of the correct consumption of quality wines and to contribute to giving cultural relevance to the issue of viticulture in a country with great traditions like Italy. The twentieth edition was particularly well attended, reaching a significant number of candidates from all over Italy.
After the event we had lunch at restaurant in Alba L'Inedito Vigin Mudest, reported on all possible guides imaginable (by the way, I advise you to read Michelin Guide: reflections after dinner - perfectly current even after this experience!), Where we tasted the traditional menu. My favorite dish was the tajarin with sausage ragu (here you will find, between a tasting of Timorasso Derthona and the other, the original recipe of Piedmontese tajarin).
Among the various wines offered, all excellent, there was also what for me is a wine of the heart: this Langhe DOC Nebbiolo from Bricco Maiolica, which is the 1st wine I tasted at the 1st level of the sommelier course. It had been years since I tasted it and I found it even better!
The National Literary Competition "Bere il Territorio" has three categories: "16-24 years", "over 24 years" and "book on wine". At lunch, in addition to Mara de Pizzol (with the red patterned shirt) of Go Wine Torino and her husband, there were also the other two winners of the competition: Massimo de Laurentiis (in the photo the second from the left, with his brother beside him and their parents in front) future Milanese philosopher, winner of the category 16 - 24 years with his short story "The blood of the volcano" inspired by a journey in the lands of Aglianico del Vulture in Basilicata, e Pier Gavino Sedda (in the photo at the head of the table with a very nice Antonio on his left) cheese selector from Gavoi (Nuoro), winner of the over 24 year category with his story "Gigino's wine" inspired by the land and Sardinian products between memory, experience and traditions.

Leonardo's Spumante is a book that I particularly love because it focuses on the multiplicity of lives that we can live during our journey here on Earth. Leonardo's Spumante is a message of hope to anyone like me who has lost the person they love most in the world and tries to rebuild their life after a cruel fate has destroyed them. As Battiato sang in "Parallel Lives" we can live infinite lives, each with a center, an adventure and someone who warms our heart. When my father died young from a terrible disease on December 18, 2018, I thought I could never be happy again. And even if I am far from a renewed balance and from the elaboration of this devastating mourning, my marriage with Francesco, a newfound serenity with my mother, this beloved wine blog of mine and the projects with Valentina have created a new life that deserves to be lived. .
Leonardo's sparkling wine, back cover: "In a fascinating journey between reality and fiction that begins with his honeymoon in Paris, Chiara tells the life of Leonardo da Vinci with a totally new key. Will Leonardo oust the famous monk Pierre Pérignon and win the title of discoverer of the classical method? What do the descendants of the kings of France have to do with it? And the Mona Lisa? And what if the author herself was only a pawn to reveal one of the best kept secrets in the history of art? Leonardo's sparkling wine is the story of two young spouses who are looking for answers in the midst of a terrible pandemic while discovering that each of us has another life available ”.
Thanks to photographer Morris Moratti for the splendid photo of me and Francesco at the Castle of Brescia that I used for the cover of “Lo Spumante di Leonardo”.

Heartfelt thanks to Go Wine and the Jury of the National Literary Competition "Bere il Territorio" - composed of Gianluigi Beccaria (University of Turin), Valter Boggione (University of Turin), Margherita Oggero (writer), Bruno Quaranta (La Stampa) and Massimo Corrado (Go Wine Association) - for having rewarded my work, certainly out of the box, but original and heartfelt.
I sincerely hope that my message of hope reaches you too. ❤️
